Simba’s Story – The Dragon With a Short Tail and a Big Heart 🐉💛

Hey there! I’m Simba — a bearded dragon with a long story but, well, a short tail. I came to Happy Scales Rescue & Rehab with my sister, Nala. She’s thriving now strong, healthy, and full of sass and I couldn’t be prouder of her. Me? I’m still working on my glow-up, but I promise I’ll get there someday. After all, every king has to earn his crown. 👑

When I first arrived, I seemed to be in pretty good shape, but it didn’t take long for my caretakers to notice something wasn’t quite right. My tail looked off darker than it should have been and starting to worry everyone. Before I knew it, I was off to a place they called “the vet.” I didn’t love it there (lots of poking and prodding), but my caretakers told me it was for the best. I got medicine, fluids, and lots of care to help me feel better.

For a while, things looked up… but my tail still wasn’t healing like it should. My caretakers and the vet made the tough decision it was time for a change. So, I went through surgery to have my tail removed. It wasn’t easy, but it was the right choice. Slowly, I began to heal and even started gaining some of my strength back.

But healing isn’t always a straight line. I pushed myself a little too hard and took a turn for the worse. I lost a lot of the weight I had worked so hard to gain, and my wound needed extra attention. So now, I’m on strict bed rest no adventures, no zoomies, just rest, warmth, and love. It’s tough for a dragon like me who dreams of exploring again, but I know it’s what I need to get better.

My caretakers say I’m brave and strong, even on the hard days. They keep everyone on the “interwebs” updated on my journey so others can cheer me on too. For now, I’m taking it one day at a time healing, eating, and dreaming of the day I can bask beside my sister again, healthy and full of life.

My story isn’t over yet, but I know it’s going to have a happy ending. Because even with a short tail, I’ve got a big heart and one day soon, I’ll be ready to rule my next forever kingdom. 💛
